Zoom Talks

New arrangement by Constant Contact

Talks usually third Tuesday in the month @19.00 UK time

All paid-up members of the Ocean Liner Society now receive the meeting link to join with one click (and as backup the zoom meeting ID and password). This will come automatically, usually around a week before the meeting date provided that the Membership Secretary has the present, correct email address.  The origin of the email containing the link will be Ocean Liner Society with the date

<david-dtja.co.uk@shared1.ccsend.com>.
We have sometimes had reports that email from a mass mailing might go to ‘junk’ until the recipient updates their contact directory to include it.  If the message does not appear in your inbox, do check ‘junk’ or ‘spam’ before contacting David Trevor-Jones at the email address below.
Members wishing to withhold their email address from the membership register, non-members and guests or those having trouble with the link may still contact David at david.trevorjones@outlook.com meeting by meeting for a link, stating the required date in the subject line.

Any member with a prospective talk for our programme is most welcome to contact David Trevor-Jones to discuss their topic. For a help sheet on how to use the Meeting ID and password sent to members or how to get a one click hyperlink in the week before a talk, click the button below.

9/11 aboard S.S. Norway
David Trevor-Jones
Tuesday 15th September 2026

Twenty-five years ago, on 11th September 2001, a world-changing event occurred in New York.  Six days earlier, S.S. Norway sailed from Pier 88 leaving the twin towers behind her as she steamed down the Hudson after her final call.  In this personal recollection David, who was on board, relives the voyage in images and memories.  There will be a chance for other audience members to give their own personal observations 25 years on.

Captain Martin Scott
Tuesday 20th October 2026

Attendees who heard Martin Scott’s gripping account of the fire aboard MSY Windsong in his 2024 Ship Show talk will be cancelling all other engagements for this evening.  Martin enjoyed a career of 45 years in the merchant navy, 30 years as Captain and the final 12 years with Holland-America line in command of their Windstar fleet of modern sail assisted cruise vessels.  In Part 1 of his life story he spoke of his career from cadet to Channel ferry master; in Part 2 he took us to the Mediterranean and beyond.  Now in Part 3 he will tell of his Windstar years as master of sailing cruise ships.

Peter Deilmann and Deutschland
Dr Stefan Behn
Tuesday 17th November 2026

Peter Deilmann’s star as a German ship-owner, ferry and cruise operator burned brightly but briefly from the late 1960s until financial ruin following its founder’s untimely death in 2003.  The intriguing story of this remarkable man and his cruise line features triumph and tragedy, culminating in the construction of one of the most individual and beautiful modern cruise ships, MV Deutschland.  Dr Behn tells the story.

A members’ miscellany
Curated by David Trevor-Jones
Tuesday 15th December 2026

Our  miscellanies are always entertaining, giving members who wouldn’t have the material for a whole talk a chance to show us some images that perhaps open up a new window on the passenger shipping world.  More information on how to propose and entry will come in the next Sea Lines, and listen out for announcements at our talks later in the year.
